If you're an acoustic musician, singer, songwriter, poet, spoken-wordsmith or just a great admirer of the arts, get off your couch and go check out open mic night at the Glen Ellyn Public Library.
Open mic night is a laid back event and a great way for performers to try out new material, and non performers to check out your local creative artists. It's free, and you'll be surrounded by like-minded people that share your passion for live entertainment. Sign up will start at 6:30 PM with the first performance beginning at 7:00.
Tom Kastle is a singer, songwriter and sailor with one foot in the singer/songwriter world and the other firmly planted in the traditional maritime realm as a shanty singer and tall ship captain. He has performed throughout the US, Canada, Europe and New Zealand.
Tom has been featured multiple times on WDCB's (which broadcasts from the College of DuPage) Folk Festival show hosted by Lilli Kuzma. (You can join Lilli every Tuesday night from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at 90.9 on your FM dial for a great mix of folk artists and styles, from traditional to contemporary folk music.) Tom has also been a guest on "The Midnight Special" and "Sweet Folk Chicago" on WFMT as well as public radio around the country. Tom is also the co-director of the Chicago Maritime Festival, faculty member at the Old Town School of Folk Music and Narrator (with occasional singing parts) for the Candid Concert Opera Company in Chicago and Madison.
